Penang Bridge Marathon 2007

I'm back !!! after weeks away from blogging mainly because i wasnt really used to college life yet and my time management wasn't very good.Any way, here i am once again.Still feeling some of the effects left on me after the longest marathon of my life so far.22.3km was the distance but i walked for the last 10 or 12 km because of the sores on both of my legs.
Lack of training, lack of sleep,2 hours of non-stop football action in the nearby Net-City,poor organising (that made me walk for an extra mile before the race) and being late really made things worse.I didn't even know when did the race started !

we still have the time for this before the race without knowing that we were late !

I was very much in mood for a long distance run while PC Wan was so busy with his camera. He even brought a tripod with him during the run. Thanks much dude...

Yes,that's me taking a short nap to pose before resuming my run.

I was maintaining my pace quite well for the first 5km until my body started to dehydrate.I had to continue my run for another 20 minites or so to reach the nearest water station.I was okay all the way from the starting point to The bridge.Just when i made the turn at mainland my legs started to sore followed by my lower back pain half way through the bridge on my way back to Penang Island ON FOOT.

My left ankle hurts,my right calf which was injuried in a football game about 2 weeks ago also hurts.I kinda knew that those pain were coming but i didnt expect both of my sweaty inner thigh to brush against each other until my skin almost peeled off ! I stopped a few times on the bridge to get some counter-pain that barely helped.

The Snickers chocolate bar that almost didn't do any good.

I tried jog a few times but i gave up in less than 100 metres.I wasn't the only one walking all the way back to the Island, almost everybody i can see was walking ! The only thing in my mind at that time was to go over the finish line.At first,it was a test of fitness, stamina but after 10km or so it was a test of willpower,to me.

I did finish the race in about 3 hours in 15 minites. Not bad, considering the training i had and the injury on my calf.

The good news is that i didn't suffer any cramp ! The bad news, i had to walk like a 'tua lam pah' all the way back to Kay Ewe's car because my inner thighs hurt like hell !!!

The whole marathon experience have been a great one.I'm not too sure if all that effort i put in is worth of i get (medal+certificate+PAIN) but its worth a try.

I don't know if I'm going participate in another 22.3km marathon again but to those who are interested, here's some personal advise from me.

1) Making sure you plan and train well.

2) Get all the tips for the marathon you can possibly get.

3) Get enough sleep before the race.

4) Organise your pre-marathon preparations (e.g. drink plenty of water, powerbar, etc)

5) Don't take a gay picture like theses guys did.
