I rather learn spanish because it is more popular internationally right? maybe I can score some senorita with it.
I'm just very curious of why Japanese culture is a trend here. I notice a lot of people being so obsessed with Japanese animation. Like my hostel roommate, he can watch jap cartoons for about 10 hours a day ! almost everyday !

Okay, learning another language is a good thing but why choose Japanese of all the languages in the world?
I'm sure most local 'banana' chinese will find the need to use mandrin more than japanese here.
I'm not saying that learning japanese is wrong but I just wanted to know why choose jap?

Don't you think you're segregating people based on their interests? Nothing much new here, really. Subcultural segregation has been running deep within the human mentality for ages past.
Although I've been pretty much a Japan freak, I did my share of homework on Japan. I make it a personal effort to study about their history, culture and language itself. I don't do it because it's cool. I do it because I like it. That's the most important thing.
I may be jumping to conclusions here but I find most of these so-called 'Japanized' people are making people like me a bad name. They like Japanese stuff just because it's cool.
Secondly, to associate Japan with 'hot chicks, animation, drift or porn' is just stereotyping. I don't like people who stereotype. Again the image of Japan has been ruined by these so-called 'Japanized' people.
In the end, everyone is just being shallow. People stereotype as they please and people stick to pop culture because they are too simple minded to break from the chains of their herding instinct. Plain and simple. Cased closed.
